5 quick and fun Rooh Afza iftar recipes

Our very own Rooh Afza has always been a nostalgic reminder of Ramzan. A staple in every Pakistani ghar around the world, this gulab hued drink leaves you feeling incredibly refreshed and is a great way to welcome Ramzan the right way!

We’ve always sipped it up as a sharbat or in thanda doodh along with our Iftar delicacies (yes, Pakoras are up there too). But did you know that Rooh Azfa can become a major game-changer in our otherwise standard, everyday recipes? We partnered up with Rooh Afza to bring you some creative-and flavourful- ways to reintroduce this mashroob-e-mashrik to your Iftar menu. Time to hit the print button!

1. MINTY GRAPEFRUIT AND ROOH AFZA PUNCH

Preparation time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 3 minutes Serving: Single Ingredients: A. Lemon juice - 3 tsp B. RoohAfza syrup - 4 tbsp C. Chilled soda - 200 ml D. Grapefruit juice, fresh or canned - 100 ml E. Crushed ice cubes - 4 F. Chopped mint leaves (for garnishing) G. Thinly sliced lemon slices. H. Tin of fruit cocktail (optional) Method: A. Add 2 tbsp Rooh Afza each into 2 stem glasses. Swirl it around so that the syrup sticks to the sides. B. Gently pour in the Grapefruit juice. C. Further add the lemon juice. D. Pour in the chilled soda and crushed ice. E. Garnish with lemon slices and mint.

2. WATERMELON & ROOH AFZA POPSICLES

Preparation time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 3 minutes Freezing time: 3 hours Serving: Fills 10 3-oz Popsicle molds Ingredients: A. Cubed seedless watermelon- 4 cups B. Rooh Afza - 1/3 to 1/2 cup; can add more if needed C. Juice of 1/2 a lemon D. Tiny pinch of salt Method: A. Blend all the ingredients together B. Strain into a bowl and taste, adjust Rooh Afza or lemon to liking C. Freeze into your molds of choice!

3. NARIYAL ROOH AFZA LADDU

Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 2 minutes Serving: 8-10 laddoos Ingredients: A. Khoya - 1 bowl B. Nariyal chura/ desiccated coconut - 1 bowl C. Sugar - 1 bowl D. Ghee - 2 tbsp E. Elaichi powder - 1/2 tbsp F. Rooh Afza - 2 tbsp Method: A. Heat ghee in frying pan and put khoya and mix in nariyal chura, sugar and all ingredients and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes. B. When it cooks well, keep aside to cool. C. When it cools down, make round laddoos out of it and serve.

4. KHATTAY MEETHAY FLAVOURED GOL GAPPAY

Preparation time: 5 minutes Cooking time: 2 minutes Serving: Single, 4-5 Gol gappas Ingredients: A. Rooh Afza - 2-3 tbsp B. Water - 1 glass C. Lemon slice - 1 D. Readymade golgappas - 4-5 E. Sweet boondis - 1 bowl F. Pomegranate pearl - 1/2 bowl Method: A. Take a glass and add Rooh Afza and add water and stir well. B. Squeeze a lemon slice and stir it. C. Take readymade golgappas and prick them to make a hole. D. Fill sweet boondi. E. Add pomegranate pearls in each of the golgappas. F. Now pour Rooh Afza mixture in each of them and serve.

5. ROOH AFZA MEETHI WINGS

Preparation time: 15 minutes Refrigeration time: 1 hour Cooking time: 5-10 minutes Serving: 10-15 wings Ingredients: A. Chicken wings -1/2 kg B. Salt - 3 tbsp C. Ketchup - 2 tbsp D. Chopped red chillies - 1 tbsp E. Vinegar- 1/4 cup F. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp G. Chopped green chillies - 1 tsp H. Corn flour - 3 tbsp I. Egg- 1 J. Oil- few drops K. Rooh Afza - 1/2 cup Method: A. Marinate chicken wings with salt, ketchup, red chillies, vinegar, ginger garlic paste, green chillies, corn flour and egg for 1 hour. B. Now heat oil in saucepan, add marinated chicken wings, fry it and drain excess oil on tissue paper. C. Then put wings in second saucepan, add Rooh Afza and mix well. D. Serve with garlic rice.
