New York’s got our heart!
September stands to be our favourite month of the year, not only because the weather finally starts to show a speck of mercy on the subcontinent and us, its veritable inhabitants but also because its FASHION WEEK SEASON! Fresh ideas, new trends and higher benchmarks being set by the most celebrated and ingenious minds the fashion world has to offer. Could it possibly get more exciting than that?
The New York fashion circuit has carved itself quite a reputation as the hub of utilitarian style with the likes of fashion greats such as Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu and Alexander Wang amongst countless others using the week long platform to unveil their coveted vision for the upcoming season.
Due to its retail friendly nature, the New York Fashion Week circuit also happens to be a great favourite at the GENERATION HQ and is closely followed to identify the base market trends for the upcoming season, a number of which have us particularly excited for the imminent season. And we couldn't wait to share them with you!
Genda Phool.
Oh the sweet, sweet visual stimulation of the mayoun yellow! It seems like the world is finally waking up to the intense beauty of the rich marigold hue that has been celebrated throughout our sub continental heritage. Whether it was Wes Gordon, Carolina Hererra, Pyer Moss or Oscar de la Renta, every designer who embalmed the hue into their aesthetic came out with a winning ensemble.
Perhaps you could channel the enchanted hue with a more subtle approach with this beautifully crushed canary yellow dupatta that comes with this parrot green Milan To Multan Kurta, an ideal approach to test the waters so you’re geared up for the h2t blooming sunflower look come spring.
The White Kurta and its Velayti cousins!
Perhaps a Pakistani staple, pretty much every true desi girl we know owns a white kurta and about a hundred variations of it! We were particularly excited to see the unique ways in which the white shirt dress had found its way onto multiple runways at NYFW, simplicity at its best seen at Adam Lippes, a kooky waist tie version shown by Garbiela Hearst, and the ultimate boho ankle dress by Tome. Zyada Baat Nai Chief Saab!
While we’ve been witnessing the not so subtle rise of menswear fabrics since the past few seasons, the look seems to be here to stay and we couldnt be happier letting those crisp looks do all the talking! Dapper styles shown by Dion Lee, Tibi and fashion’s current darling Sies Marjan take centre stage letting the clean lines, crisp pinstripes, plaids and solids take centerstage.
Perhaps if you’d like to give the look a more feminine flair, these tops from our Uzbek Denim serve as the ideal gateway to embrace your husband/brother/boyfriend’s wardrobe come spring.
Bandhini on Acid.
A perfect homage to the oncoming of spring, the return of boisterous tie dye prints have us most excited for the next season. NYFW played host to a variety of interpretations of the indigenous technique ranging from full on kaleidoscope at R13, to a very restrained monotone palette at Eckhaus Latta and even a balanced approach right in the middle at Prabal Gurung (omg LOVE HIM!)
Styles from our Boho Gypsy collection incorporate the tie dye beautifully for the pre-fall season, the selection of fluid silhouettes should serve well transitioning into autumn.
We’d also like to give a very special shout out to a Pakistani design house that not only all of us have come to admire over the years, but has also made the country proud by making it to NYFW. Saniya Maskatiya was handpicked by the CAAFD (Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) as part of a collective showcase for emerging designers at the biggest fashion platform of them all!
We were glad to see the pure Sania aesthetic shine through in a series of beautiful signature prints and easy silhouettes that they are celebrated for back home. More power to you girl!
